Wildlife
Golf courses provide a safe haven for wildlife and West Surrey with its quiet countryside setting is no exception. For the observant golfer with an interest in nature this adds immeasurably to the enjoyment of a round.
Birdlife abounds throughout the course and there are regular sightings of buzzards wheeling overhead around Potters Hill.
Other regulars include woodpeckers, green and spotted, while skylarks can be heard above adjacent farmland. Cuckoos are often heard calling in the spring and newly arrived on the course are some red kites.
Some 26 nesting boxes including two for owls have been built by one of the members and installed around the course, many of them visible during a round of golf.
Squirrels are everywhere with a surprisingly varied vocal presence. Foxes are regularly sighted, occasionally with young, while deer frequently burst noisily out from the woods to race across the fairways.
On the grass banks beside the 17th green adders have been known to make an appearance and bask in the sun but you have to be quick to spot them before they slide rapidly away.
